Mediation Training

Sign up today! Registration is now open for the 5-day Mediation Training Skills Institute. Lead by the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center, this small-group workshop is designed to equip church leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to deal effectively with interpersonal, congregational, and other forms of group conflict. It also includes a component on congregational mediation and consultation, placed within the context of family systems theory. Although focused primarily on the church setting, the alternative dispute resolution skills learned are directly transferable to the business and academic worlds. 

Workshop objectives include:

  • Learn how to navigate conflict through practicing role-playing exercises during the institute
  • Understand the role of personal positionality in a conflict
  • Learn interpersonal peacemaking skills
  • Understand your own response to conflict
  • Learn the different stages in mediation
  • Apply Bowen Family Systems Theory as a way to understand church conflict

Executive Director of the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center, Rev. Jay Wittmeyer, will present this intensive workshop March 2nd -6th at First Presbyterian Church of NashvilleSessions will run 8:15-4:30 Monday-Thursday and 8:15-1:00 on Friday. Registration includes the presentation, manual, light breakfast, refreshments, lunch, and any additional course handouts. Travel, accommodations, and additional meals will be the responsibility of the attendee. 

The cost to attend the training in $850. Members of the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee may register at the discounted rate of $500. The Presbytery is absorbing some of the registration fees for members who are willing to serve on the Mediation Team in the future.
