Committee on Social Justice

The Committee for Social Justice works to actively engage the Presbytery in the crucial social justice issues of our time and place. The committee seeks to represent our rich diversity of voices, giving particular attention to groups and persons who have been marginalized and silenced, and to mobilize the Presbytery in dismantling structural racism and eradicating systemic poverty.

2024 Proposed TN Legislation
One way the Committee on Social Justice wants to support congregations is by making
them aware of legislation under consideration in our state so that they can have faithful
discussions and take action if desired. The spreadsheet linked here gives pertinent
information about the spring 2024 legislative session.

How to Contact Lawmakers
If you feel moved to speak out on an issue, here’s a simple guide to contacting your
legislators and advocating effectively.

Social Justice Survey 2023 Full Results In 2023, the newly formed Committee on Social Justice conducted a survey in the
Presbytery of Middle Tennessee to better understand congregations’ approach to social
justice, what initiatives were underway, how the work was going, and what the church
might be called to next. The committee’s goal in asking these questions was to “get the
lay of the land” before discerning how to serve and support congregations in the area of
social justice. Full results and some analysis are at the link provided.
